Solo, 20th June 2022 – Ministry of Youth and Sports, APSF, NPC Indonesia, and INASPOC, held a meeting from 17th until 20th June 2022 at Swiss-Bell Hotel and The Sunan Hotel Solo, discussing preparations for the 11th ASEAN Para Games 2022, a biennial sport for athletes with disabilities to be held from 30th July to 6th August 2022 in Solo – Central Java Indonesia. The participants were 1,817 participants consisting of 1,283 athletes and 534 officials from 11 countries in Southeast Asia (Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Timor Leste, and Vietnam). The 11th ASEAN Para Games will feature fourteen sports which are Para Archery, Para Athletics, Para-Badminton, Boccia, Para Chess, CP Football, Goalball, Blind Judo, Para Powerlifting, Sitting Volleyball, Para-Swimming, Para Table Tennis, Wheelchair Basketball, and Wheelchair Tennis. The fourteen sports will be held in fourteen venues around the cities of Solo, Karanganyar, Sukoharjo, and Semarang (Details are listed in the Fact Sheet).

Three things have been concluded in this joint meeting, which is: (1) The ratification of Presidential Decree No. 95 of 2022 concerning the Organizing of the 11th ASEAN Para Games; (2) Total participants from 11 ASEAN countries; (3) readiness of the organizing committee. “The point is that all venues will be ready before 15th July, because there will be no major renovations,” explained the General Chair of INASPOC, Gibran Rakabuming Raka. Gibran also added that the media should provide support through intensive publications to increase awareness of this activity.

The General Secretary of APSF also expressed appreciation, “We thank you for the alertness of INASPOC and NPC Indonesia in preparing the 11th ASEAN Para Games 2022 in a short time, and we will support in the form of detailed direction and coordination for the success of this activity”, Wandee Tosuwan.

Furthermore, Senny Marbun, The General Chairperson of NPC Indonesia expressed his hope, “When Malaysia wins the overall championship, hopefully at this event the Indonesian contingent can defend it”.

On the same occasion, the Minister of Youth and Sports, Zainudin Amali said that cross-ministerial coordination was being carried out to make this event a success. “One example is that the Ministry of Transportation has committed to providing disability-friendly transportation facilities for the participants of the 11th ASEAN Para Games 2022”.
