Solo – The appeal of the 2022 ASEAN Para Games does not only come from the struggle of para-athletes who compete for gold medals. Such appeal also comes from a bazaar in one of the venues. The stalls in the bazaar sell unique souvenirs.
One of them is Tambah Tumbuh in the para-athletic venue in Manahan Stadium, Solo. The stall sells various environmentally friendly handcrafts made by inmates.
Sita, the stall keeper, ensured that their products are also budget friendly. However, she did not explain in detail about which prison these inmates are from.
“These are recycled products from wood and patchwork. They were made with the cooperation of inmates and waste banks. The price range for these products are from Rp10,000 to Rp 200,000,” Sita said.
There are cutting boards hanged neatly with the picture of Rajamala, the 2022 ASEAN Para Games mascot. However, these cutting boards only serve as wall decorations and are not meant to serve as cutting boards.
On the other side of the stand, there are small monkey dolls and various handheld fans with the 2022 ASEAN Para Games logo. Sita said that visitors who saw her products gave positive responses with some of them were foreigners.
“They were quite happy and curious with the recycled products. Foreign visitors also stopped by, from Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, and Singapore,” Sita said.
“We hope that people will understand the importance of recycling through these products. Recycling can reduce waste, particularly waste from furniture industry and cloth waste. The international community can also know that Solo is environmentally friendly due to the existence of waste bank and recycled goods,” she said. The 2022 ASEAN Para Games bazaar at Manahan Stadium has been opened from before the opening on Saturday, 30 July. It will be closed after the closing ceremony on Saturday, 6 August. One of the purposes of this bazaar is to support people’s economy and accelerate the economic recovery.*
